Summary
There is always lots of information in your head that you want to impart to your learners. Some of this is critical to their learning and some is interesting background that will help them appreciate why and what they are learning.
In order to distill the information down to a form that the learner can cope with while they are trying to perform a new skill or improve an existing skill, we use the focus funnel approach.
- Explain the lesson with as much detail as you feel is appropriate
- Give a clear direction that tells the learner exactly what to do
- Give one tag point to create point of focus.
You can use TAGteach without changing the technical aspects of what you are teaching. Incorporate tag points into existing drills or add them to lessons the way you would normally teach.
Use tag teach to teach new skills and also to manage behavior in class. Tagging learners who are standing or sitting quietly can quickly result in the group being ready for the next direction without you raising your voice to get their attention.
Peer tagging is very powerful. The more you can get the taggers into the hands of the learners, the better!
