What is TAGteach?

TAGteach is a way of teaching that involves breaking behavior goals into small steps, providing immediate feedback using an acoustic marker, taking cues from the learner and building behavior incrementally towards the final goal. This approach enhances teaching, learning, and communication in people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.

TAGteach is a way of teaching people. A similar way of training animals is called clicker training. Because we have language, there are some major differences between TAGteach and clicker training. TAGteach involves structured use of language in order to minimize extraneous words and to give the teacher and learner crystal clear goals.

TAGteach works in any language or even without language. The teacher explains to the learner exactly what is expected. The learner has one goal to focus on. When the learner meets the goal the teacher marks the successful moment with a click sound made by a mechanical device. This click sound is called a tag. If the learner hears the tag they know they have met the goal. If they don’t hear the click sound they know to reassess and try again.
