What is a Marker?

  • In TAGteach, a marker is a distinct signal that clearly marks the correct execution of a specific goal.
  • The marker has a single piece of information attached to it – YES.

  • The most commonly used marker in TAGteach is an audible tag made by a small device called a tagger. We call the sound it makes a tag because it puts an audible mark or ‘Tag’ on the executed goal.
  • In some situations an audible marker is not suitable and in these cases another signal such as a touch, light or other signal can be used to mark success.
  • In summary, the tag signals correct behavior, it grabs attention, creates focus and, most importantly, signals success.
We already use acoustical guidance in daily life. Some examples:

Microwave dings to tell us dinner is ready.

  • Doorbell tells us someone is at the door.
  • Alarm clock tells us it is time to get up.
