Part 2: Tag

The next part of the TAGteach Triangle is tag or mark the achievement of the tag point so that the learner knows what to do and when they did it correctly.

When the learner performs the tag point correctly the teacher marks the success with a click sound (or tag). Other ways of tagging such as a tap on the shoulder or a flash of a light can also be used, but the short sharp sound of the click works best. We will talk more about this later.

You should tag immediately that you see the tag point being executed. We will have some tagging practice later in the course to help you develop good timing with the tagger.

The tag says to the learner” “Yes, that was right”. Absence of a tag says “reassess and try again”. There is no need to use any words in conjunction with the tag. The learner either got it right or he didn’t. He can figure out for himself which it was based on the presence or absence of the tag. This gives the learner a chance to think for himself and internalize his own learning. This allows teaching and learning to proceed at a rapid pace without the interruption of a lot of discussion.

If you find yourself wanting to add extra directions, then you need to reassess your tag point and make sure it has only one component for the learner.
