Exercise 1
In preparation for using the TAGteach methodology, let’s practice looking for success. These exercises may seem a bit trivial or even silly to some people. We strongly urge you to do them anyway, since it is critically important for you to be able see things in the positive and make positive statements if you wish to succeed with this course and with TAGteach.
- Look around and make five positive statements. For example; I like this carpet. My children got to the bus stop on time. It’s a nice day today.
- Speak to five people and say something positive. For example; You came in early! Thank-you! Great, you completed the project!
- List three things that at first seem negative and then find the positive side.
- Think of three things that need to be stopped and then rephrase these into what needs to be done. For example; A teacher may want her students to stop touching the other children while standing in line. Rather than telling them what not to do (don’t touch the other students) she could try asking with a positive, such as “hands in pockets”.
