To Tag or Not to Tag

It is not necessary, or even beneficial, to tag every part of everything you are trying to teach.

Sometimes you can just give an instruction and the learners do it correctly right away. There is no need to tag in this situation.

Here are some conditions for which tagging is useful:

When not to tag:

  • For an entire lesson (15 minutes of tagging in an hour long lesson is often plenty)
  • When you can readily explain with words
  • When your learners are progressing well with verbal instructions alone
  • When everyone is tired

If you decide not to tag, you will still use the WOOF

1. Ask for what you Want
2. Ask for One thing
3. Ask for something observable
4. Phrase your goal in 5 words or less
