Ending a Session
It is always a good idea to end a session on a note of success.
When a learner demonstrates a personal best performance or exceeds expectations then you can offer them praise, let them take a break, play a game or switch to a favored activity.
Resist the temptation for “just one more” since the performance may decline and then frustration and disappointment may taint the feeling of success.
Learning with TAGteach is an intense experience and requires a high degree of focus and concentration. Even if the learner is not engaged in strenuous physical activity the mental effort associated with intense focus can be draining creating focus fatigue.
Keep sessions short to avoid focus fatigue.
Sometimes the success of TAGteach results in excitement and a desire to continue for both teacher and learner. New TAGteachers often get carried away at first and before they know it, the learner is getting tired physically and/or mentally and performance is decreasing.
The best thing to do in this situation is to change the tag point to something that you know the learner can do. Let them earn a couple of tags and then end the session.
Always end a session with a tag. Leave ’em wanting more!
