Reinforcer Placement – Video – Yellow Targeting
Here’s another session in the bathroom teaching program. The is one is earlier in the progression than in the other video you’ve seen.
Because the therapist had to close the door, she ended up with the child passing the fearsome door in order to get the reinforcer.
This was inadvertent here, but delivering the reinforcer in such a way as to cause the desired behavior to increase – as we just discussed — can be a good strategy.
If there is fear involved, you have to be careful though, since this could backfire and cause a loss of trust, if the motivation to do the behavior can’t overcome the fear.
It’s also interesting to note here, that the reinforcer he gets after pulling all the beads is his juice box, which was sitting within his reach the whole time. Clearly he enjoys the game for its own sake.
