MODULE 1

Welcome to the TAGteach for Autism Course. My name is Martha Gabler and I am the mother of a nonverbal adult son with severe autism. When my son was little, our family’s ability to function was nonexistent. You may be in the same situation. Each day was an endless round of tantrums, screaming, stomping, self-injury, and not sleeping. I had to find a way to change things and stumbled upon the beautiful solution of TAGteach. With TAGteach I learned how to spot – and reinforce — those rare but wonderful split seconds of productive behavior that he occasionally performed: behaviors such as Quiet Mouth, Appropriate Vocalization, Looking At Mom, Looking At Dad, and many more. Very quickly I figured out how to use TAGteach to de-escalate tantrums, increase calm behaviors, and teach really important skills like Safe Walking, Going To The Grocery Story, and Sleeping. This course will teach you how to do this, so you can increase your child’s productive behaviors. When your child can walk safely with you and behave appropriately in the store and at the park, the whole family benefits, and life is much better. Let’s get started.
