Focus Funnel Example 5
Lesson: “When you perform the bicep curl, it is important to hold the weight for one second at the top of the curl. This extra squeeze helps your focus and keeps the muscle engaged.”
Instructions: Perform a bicep curl five times
The tag point is… 1 second pause
After the five reps are done, you would move on to the next tag point and give new instructions and a new tag point. You wouldn’t need to repeat the Lesson and Objective, since these would still be the same.
Instructions: Perform a bicep curl five times
The tag point is… elbow at waist
If there were additional elements to the skill, you could move on to give new instructions and tag points, with only one tag point per set of repetitions.
It is very common for learners to lose a tag point that seemed to have been mastered, when you move them on to the next tag point. For example, they might forget about the 1 second pause, because now they are thinking about “elbow at waist”. Just ignore any errors. TAGteachers never point out errors. You can always go back to a previous tag point later. If you give a tag point and the learner gets it right, you must tag, even if they did other things wrong. We will talk more later about how to put individual elements together to build a whole skill.
