Summary – Home to School Transition
In summary, your child’s feelings on arriving home from school may be unpredictable. He may be happy, sad, angry or neutral.
We can’t know.
But, we can support that child the moment he steps off the bus or gets out of the car.
Your child can rely on the fact that as soon as he steps off the bus, he will receive positive reinforcement and success. This experience, repeated many times, will help him stay calm during this big transition.
Tag and reinforce your child’s productive behaviors through all the steps we mentioned.
Create a stable, reinforcing routine for the first 15 minutes at home.
Your child will be better able to handle his emotions, he will know what to do when he gets in the house, and he will be relaxed, refreshed, and ready for the rest of the day.
