Homework

Make a list of the transitions that your child experiences every day (it’s pretty long, isn’t it?)

Do a task analysis on each transition and write down all the steps and all the tasks involved in each step.

Consider whether your child knows how to do all the steps in every transition. If not, break down the individual missing skills and come up with some tag points (using the WOOF rules) to teach him the missing skills.

Come up with a plan to insert more positive reinforcement into the transitions, especially those that are troublesome for the child. Take a look at your own behavior too. Are you placing too many demands, but not giving enough opportunities to reinforce success?

Make a list of the ways you could improve the balance of success vs failure during each transition.
