TAGteach & Precision Teaching example
Pinpoint: See-draws dot-to-dot mark
The pinpoint tells me exactly what I need to know to set up my learning environment and create my tag point.
See means there must be visual input – there has to be some stimuli that they see. Draws tells me that the behaviour expected of them involves drawing. Dot-to-dot mark tells me that there should be dots on the page for them to connect.
The aim tells me the end fluency goal – how many marks my learner needs to draw to reach fluency.
We can run that pinpoint through the focus funnel to determine our lesson.
“We’re going to work on making straight lines. These are important becasue they are the basic marks involved in printing and will help make printing easier for you.”
“The instructions are, put your pencil on the first dot and draw a straight line to the second one. Make sure you stop at the second dot.”
“The tag point is, dot to dot.” After few tag point repetition, when the learner is ready it is time to practice the new skill in short interval bursts (from 15 secs to 3-5 mins).
