A Simple Example – Capturing
Capturing behavior means to “grab” it when it happens naturally. With TAGteach, we “grab” the behavior with the tag.
Notice how Teresa immediately lowers the criteria to something Lear can do – show one eye above the table. This is great example of shaping a simple behavior. It is also a great example of integrating TAGteach into another activity. The focus of the activity is on the conversation, and if Lear happens to give eye contact, Teresa tags.
She is reinforcing more extended eye contact with her enthusiasm and interest in what he is telling her.
The sequence of events is as follows:
Antecedent: Teresa’s presence and interest (no prompting at all)
Behavior: Lear makes eye contact
Consequence: Teresa tags and gives a Skittle
