Martha: Let’s discuss this video. We’d like to get everybody’s viewpoints. What did you notice? We are going to write down everybody’s comments on the whiteboard.

I have to say when I first saw this video I was just so impressed with Seany’s patience in letting her take her time to grab the ball out of the cup. So that is one beautiful thing that I spotted in this video.

Here is the list of observations/comments – with additional commentary from Martha (in italics)

• Dad is very patient – lets Tink learn at her own pace.
• The tag marks her correct behaviors precisely and on time – so she is getting that immediate feedback.
• There are no confusing instructions for Tink.
• The tag sound is consistent and sends one message, “YES you did it.” Many of our kids generally hear way too much chatter, way too much talk and it just adds confusion to their environment. So when you just have this one click sound and then the reinforcer, that’s all you need. She’s learning it and she did a great job. 
• When she has achieved one step, Seany raises the criteria and moves on to the next. First she was just holding the ball and then she was pulling it out of the cup, which is just great. 
•  You can see how the momentum keeps going as he shapes this behavior.
• Dad is encouraging.
